finding the perfect diamond

With more than 160 years of expertise, Boucheron takes the greatest care in selecting each diamond to offer you exceptional stones. Beyond the intrinsic quality of the stone, its value lies in the emotion it reflects. The quality of a diamond can be appreciated according to a harmony of four inseparable criteria, named the "4Cs" (carat, color, clarity, cut).

 carat

The carat is the unit of measurement used to evaluate the weight of stones, including diamonds. Since 1906, a carat has been officially set at 0.20 g. The word refers to the seed of the carob tree, which is able to maintain the same weight over time.  While carat measures the weight of a diamond, it alone cannot determine its value. The other three criteria are also essential. The 4Cs are inseparable.  The center stones on our solitaire rings in our wedding collections weigh at least 0.2 carats and are GIA or Sarine certified.

color

The color of a diamond is measured on an international scale ranging from D to Z. A D-color diamond will be perfectly colorless, while a Z-color diamond will have a yellowish tint. The diamonds selected by the Maison are between D and G.

cut

The precision of the diamond's cut is the criterion that gives it its brilliance. Boucheron only offers diamonds with a "very good" to "excellent" cut: the facets of the stone have been cut perfectly symmetrically to ensure exceptional light reflection.

clarity

To assess the clarity of a diamond, its inclusions must be examined. These take different forms (crystals, clouds) and can alter the path of light through the stone. The clarity of diamonds is defined by international standards ranging from FL to I3. Boucheron only selects diamonds with a clarity ranging from FL to VS2 when viewed under 10x magnification.

FL (Flawless)

Absence of internal and/or external imperfections.

IF (Internally Flawless)

Only minor external inclusions that are extremely difficult to observe under 10x magnification.

VVS1-VVS2 (Very Very Slightly Included)

Tiny inclusions that are extremely or very difficult to observe under 10x magnification.

VS1-VS2 (Very Slightly Included)

Very small inclusions that are difficult to see under 10x magnification.

SI1-SI2 (Slightly Included)

Small inclusions easily visible under 10x magnification.

I1-I2-I3 (Included)

Presence of imperfections. Inclusions that are easily visible under 10x magnification and, in most cases, to the naked eye.

fluorescence

The fluorescence of diamonds is visible under ultraviolet light. If the diamond is blue in color, it exhibits fluorescence.  Sometimes, this can alter the appearance of the diamond. Boucheron only accepts diamonds with "zero" fluorescent qualities to guarantee perfect, consistent brilliance.
