Boucheron boutique at the Palais Royal, circa 1870-1880
In 1858, Frédéric Boucheron established himself at no. 150 Galerie de Valois, under the arcades of the Palais-Royal in Paris. Lacking sufficient capital at the time, he borrowed money from family and friends to launch his business. He raised a total of one hundred thousand francs. Despite his humble beginnings, he became increasingly successful thanks to his taste for selecting high-fantasy objects.
Choosing the Palais Royal was decisive. It was the favorite meeting point of the elegant society of the time, with luxury stores, theaters and stylish restaurants. By the end of this first venture, in 1892, Boucheron had expanded his store from one to four arcades, making it the most prominent jewelry store in the entire Palais Royal.
Number 26 Place Vendôme
In 1893, Frédéric Boucheron was the first of the great contemporary jewelers to open a boutique on Place Vendôme. He transformed the Hôtel de Nocé into Paris's most beautiful jewelry boutique. Boucheron chose number 26 for its exceptional sunlight, making the jewels shine in the displays from sunrise to sunset. At the time, Countess Virginia de Castiglione, known as "La Divine," famous for being Napoleon III's mistress, owned an apartment in the Hôtel de Nocé. A few years after his arrival, Boucheron turned the apartment into his personal office.
The boutique at 26 after the 2018 renovation
Upon her arrival in 2015, Hélène Poulit-Duquesne made this address one of her priorities. With the support of the Kering Group, the CEO carried out an in-depth renovation to celebrate the Maison's anniversary in 2018, restoring 26 Place Vendôme to its former glory and returning it to its original family values.
Michel Goutal, chief architect of the Monuments Historiques, was chosen with this objective in mind. The decoration of 26 Place Vendôme was entrusted to Pierre-Yves Rochon, an internationally renowned French interior designer. Echoing the spirit of freedom that has always been Boucheron's hallmark, he set out to shake up the codes of traditional jewelry boutiques. Round tables where advisors and clients can gather, rather than rectangular tables where everyone stays on their own side. As a result, each space's decor skillfully blends contemporary touches, works of art and antique pieces, to create a home where each generation has left its own personal touch.
The Boucheron Apartment living room
The fifth floor is undoubtedly where the townhouse's family spirit is best expressed. An actual apartment has been created — a new kind of jewelry experience for visitors, who are welcomed as friends rather than customers. They can also relax, have a drink or even spend the night in the Boucheron apartment, located above the Place Vendôme boutique. Now more than ever, this address represents the quintessence of the Boucheron spirit.
It would take a bold visionary to set up Maison Boucheron at 26 Place Vendôme. Founder Frédéric Boucheron took the plunge, never ceasing to innovate creatively. He took over the Hôtel de Nocé in 1893.
A Parisian garden in the heart of Tokyo. With this new flagship, the Maison wanted to offer a true creative and innovative voyage on the theme of Nature.
The origins of the Maison Boucheron lie with its founder, Frédéric. A visionary who approaches jewelry like no other jeweler before him.
Every Maison has a mascot. At Boucheron, the mascot has a name: Wladimir the cat!
For many years, the Maison was run by men, but today it's a female-led business.
