The Maison Boucheron sponsors the BJOP – a school specializing in fine and High Jewelry – in keeping with the commitment of its founder, Frédéric Boucheron, to uphold age-old expertise and exacting craftsmanship. Indeed, during the 19th century, Frédéric Boucheron served as vice-president and then president of the Chambre syndicale de la Bijouterie Joaillerie Orfèvrerie (Syndical Chamber of Jewelry and Goldsmithing). He also supported the school by creating, in 1890, a travel grant enabling students to train in foreign markets.

The ethics of protecting skills and expertise is also illustrated by the fact that the Maison Boucheron still maintains its workshops on the top floor of its historical address at 26, place Vendôme, where they have been since 1893. 

The Maison Boucheron is RJC-certified

Since 2006, the Maison Boucheron has been a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Certified with the Code of Practices of this international organization since 2011, the Maison demonstrates its commitment to exemplarity and transparency through its ethical, environmental and social conduct.  

The RJC is a certification organization founded to promote responsible practices in terms of ethics, the environment and work conditions throughout the jewelry supply chain. The RJC has developed a standard of reference for the jewelry supply chain as well as reliable mechanisms making it possible to verify responsible corporate practices through an independent auditor. 

Gold

In 2020, the Maison Boucheron reached a percentage of 100% responsible gold in its supply chain. Boucheron procures responsible gold in keeping with the “Kering Standards,” a document listing the environmental and social guidelines in sourcing raw materials.

The Maison Boucheron purchases gold through the Kering Ethical Gold Framework, which was developed for the Kering Group as an innovative, intelligent way to procure responsible, ethical gold. 

The gold purchased through this platform features RJC Chain of Custody certification, from recycled and certified/verified small-scale sources.

The program includes a foundation that supports Fairmined and/or Fairtrade small-scale (ASM) artisanal mining projects, as well as social and environmental projects in the field among mining communities.

Gemstones

The diamonds offered by the Maison Boucheron respect the Kimberley process as well as the “Kering Standards” determined by the group. 

The Kimberley process lays down strict business rules among the signatory countries and bans the regions where diamond trafficking helps finance armed conflicts. To complete this regulatory framework, the Kering Group (of which Boucheron has been a part since 2000) released the “Kering Standard” and an “Ethical Code” which formally establish the requirements in observance of human rights, labor rights and environmental standards. Suppliers throughout the supply chain must obtain RJC certification. 

The certification of the Maison Boucheron was renewed in 2020, and it now includes colored gemstones.

Environmental footprint

The EP&L (Environmental Profit and Loss) developed by the Kering group enables the Maison Boucheron to measure the environmental impact of its operations. EP&L is a science-based decision-making tool that makes it possible to measure the environmental impact of all the group’s subsidiaries at the various levels of the value chain, and translates it into monetary value to better grasp the true social cost of production process. The EP&L system enables the Maison Boucheron to determine targeted solutions and to allocate investment to the fields that most require it. 

Since 2016, Boucheron has been producing honey and providing a space for beekeeping on the roof of the boutique on 26, place Vendôme. By producing its own honey, Boucheron demonstrates its commitment to protect this endangered species.
